For textiles used in upholstery, wear resistance is quantified by the number of "sits" (cycles). This indicates how many times the fabric-covered furniture can be used before signs of wear appear. This rub test simulates natural wear and tear. The higher the numerical result, the more durable and resistant the material is to abrasion. This test is known as the Martindale method.
